My English Blog

My Family went on a holiday to Cobram which is up on the Murray River in Victoria. It took us 4 hours to get there with stopping for lunch. For lunch we had hungry jacks. When we got to Cobram we put our things in our apartment and went into the pool. For the rest of our holiday we went on the mighty Murray cruise, went shopping and saw koalas at Ulupna Island. I had a great time at Cobram and I can’t wait to go back there again.

What have you learnt this year through blogging?

I learnt that you should not put personal information on your blogs because people can look you up.

What would you say to other year eights about the possibility of blogging in English next year?

Blogging is a great way to help people learn about other countries and other topics. It is also great to write about topics that interest you and have really nice comments written back about them.  

Some people say that ‘blogging is just a different way of learning’. What do you say about the possibility of using blogs to learn?

Blogs help people to learn because they get to read other peoples opinions on different topics and can cause them to learn more about different topics.      

The Dons is about a boy called Paul who lives with his Mum Teresa and his Nonno. His Nonno has trouble remembering things wanders off when he is in an unfamiliar place. Paul’s Auntie Rita thinks that Nonno should be in a nursing home instead of living with Teresa and will not help look after Nonno and only visits when she wants something. I think the book is very good.

Reading The Dons is very easy because it is not a very long book. What I don’t like about reading the dons and answering questions on it after reading it is that we don’t get the questions when we start the book. For some questions you have to re-read the book because you have to put quotes down and write the page numbers find all the slang terms in the book and write down the page numbers.

I like reading about every ones opinions on books that we read and movies that we watch and do projects on. I like reading them because they are all different because some people like them and some people don’t. I like the fact that people put pictures of them on their blogs because then it shows people who have not read or seen them what the cover looks like. I also like it when people put pictures of their favourite shows or animals. 

I read a blog from a different school and I liked her whinge about I guy she likes at her school. She also had a whinge about famous singers because they only become famous because of their looks and not because of talent. I like the way she expresses her opinion on her posts because it makes them very interesting to read.

What are good teachers like? 

Good teachers are people who teach in a fun way which makes children want to learn and help whenever they need help. 

What qualities do teachers have? 

The qualities that they have are kindness and helpfulness. 

What does it mean to be a good learner? 

A good learner is someone who always tries to do their best, always listens to their teacher and asks questions about anything. They always study and not just for exams and enjoy learning. 

What qualities do good students have? 

The qualities that good students have are kindness towards their teachers and classmates and consideration of others wanting to learn.   

What expectations do I have of this class? 

The expectations I have of our class is having consideration of the people who want to learn and of the teacher that is up the front of the class who is trying to teach. 

What expectations do I have of my English teacher? 

The expectations I have of my English teacher are helping people with their learning and punishing the people who are not listening or being quiet when others want to learn. 

What does it mean to have a good learning environment? 

A good learning environment is quiet classroom where people can concentrate and listen to what the teacher is saying.

In English we had been reading a book called Alex. The first half of the book was really boring but the second half was really good. Alex is about a girl who is trying to get into the Rome Olympics in 1960. At first she had no competition until Maggie came along. Maggie is a faster swimmer than Alex Causing Alex to work hard to be able to go to Rome. I have finished reading the book and I really enjoyed it.

During the last to weeks we did 8 Alive. During 8 Alive we went to Ceres in East Brunswick. There we made recycled paper and did activities on the amount of water we use and waste that we dispose of. We also had an Indian women tell us about India. We had henna drawn on our hands and a Bindi put in the middle of our eyebrows. During the week we also did journal writing, played board games and painted a Mural. We also went to a rock climbing centre in Bayswater and that was really fun.
Last week we had two women from ”Girls Talk” come and do a play on girls’ issues. They included boys, teenage pregnancies, drugs and alcohol and lots more. It was really funny and I really enjoyed it.     
 

Being an evacuee in World War 2 would have been hard because they had to go live with strangers out in the country without their family. They also would have been worried and scared about their parents because of they where still living in the city. 

During the war the amount of food people ate was very limited. Due to lack of food there was a rationing on the amount of certain foods they could have. 

During the blitz in 1940 it would have been very frightening for the people there at the time due to all the bombs falling and the chance of them loosing there lives. During the blitz 40,000 people were killed and 46,000 were injured. More than a million homes were lost of damaged. 

In English this term we are reading Goodnight Mister Tom. 

I think Willie is a kind and polite 9 year old who has been told lies all his life. 

I think Tom Oakes is an old man who doesn’t know much about looking after children. 

In the future I think he will have to go and live with his mum again and at the end Willie goes back and lives with Tom.
